Fight Back Against Alcohol Addiction In Surrey

Alcoholism can turn somebody in a person that’s unrecognisable to who they normally are. It’s well known to make people more violent, reduces someone’s cognitive abilities, and impairs their judgement.

It’s also well-known to have a terrible effect on the body. Long term drinking can damage your heart, take its toll on your liver and will increase your risk of developing certain types of cancer, including cancer of the liver.

However, unlike other drugs, alcohol is writ large in our culture. It’s much more socially acceptable than smoking cannabis or even nicotine.

Although heavy drinking is associated with teenagers, this isn’t necessarily always the case. Unfortunately, alcohol abuse has been growing among adults over 50, with an estimated 17% of people misusing alcohol or prescription drugs. Many young people also use it to self-medicate; particularly when suffering from every day stress.

If you’re concerned that you might be suffering from alcohol addiction, and you live in Hampshire, pay a visit to Addiction Care. Our friendly counsellor welcomes people of all ages, suffering from alcohol or drug addiction in Surrey or Hampshire.

Help With Drug Addiction In Hampshire

Drug addiction is a brain disease that causes compulsive behaviour and leads to harmful consequences, both to the addict and those around them.

Unfortunately, nowadays, this doesn’t just include addiction to harder drugs like heroin or cocaine, but is often an addiction to prescriptive drugs like sleeping pills and codeine. This is an increasingly common problem in the both the UK and America.

Drug addiction is often a way of blotting out emotional pain, which is why it can be difficult to treat. While others only use them for recreational use, many people use drugs as a coping mechanism. Friends and family often suffer greatly due to an addict’s behaviour, despite wanting to help and support them.

It’s also problematic because many drugs disrupt the way nerve cells work, either by imitating the brain’s natural messengers or by overstimulating the reward circuit of the brain. That means you have to tackle both the physical and emotional reliance on the drug. But one thing is for sure: with the right support, drug addiction can be cured.

Are you based in Hampshire, and concerned about your addiction?

It’s been proven that a combination of counselling and addiction treatment medication is the most effective way to tackle drug addiction. Alcohol is one of the most common addictions, and one of the most destructive- for both the sufferer and those around them. With millions of men, in particular, consuming 14 units a week, experts even think there should be warnings on bottles. New guidance recommendations have already lowered the limit for men from 21 to 14.

This is despite the fact there is a definite link between alcohol and cancer, along with many other serious conditions. Recent research also found that only 1 in 10 know there is a link between alcohol and cancer.

New figures have shown that those in areas with high alcohol consumption have a lower life expectancy. This means people can lose as much as 19 months of their life.

Although drinking in moderation isn’t bad for you- some studies show it can actually be beneficial- alcohol addiction can have devastating consequences. It destroys families, damages relationships, and often ruins someone’s health and career.

Relate also describe it as involving ‘frequent self-destructive or high-risk activities’ that are not emotionally fulfilling and that one is ashamed of. Conquer Your Drug Addiction In 2016

Tackling a complex problem like drug addiction might be hard, but it is possible. And it’s always worth it.

Misuse of drugs not only damages your health; it has a devastating effect on your family life, your work and on wider society. Whether or not someone seeks help often means the difference between life and death. As Donald Lynn Frost once said, ‘Drugs take you to hell, disguised as heaven.’

According to The Independent, the five most addictive drugs in the world are heroin, cocaine, nicotine, barbiturates and alcohol.

Although people associate drug addiction with Class A drugs, there is a growing number of people addicted to prescription drugs, including strong pain killers and sleeping pills. This is not only dangerous, but can eventually lead to people using harder drugs.

While many people can use recreational drugs without getting addicted, other people are more susceptible to compulsive drug taking. This is often due to a myriad of factors, including a difficult past or an addictive personality. Because the impetus behind drug use is so varied it’s important to seek professional counselling, to help undercover what’s driving your addiction.

Find Food Help In Guildford

Food is one of life’s greatest pleasure. That is, as long as our eating habits aren’t out of control. Unfortunately, obesity is one of the biggest growing problems in the western world. In the UK alone over 32 million people are overweight. More than a third of children are also overweight once they leave primary school. These are scary statistics and make one wonder what’s gone wrong.

With overeating, it’s not so much the food itself, as the process of eating which is addictive.

In this regard it’s what’s known as a psychological compulsion. It also falls under the category of a behavioural addiction. Overeating is often a way to compensate for something that’s missing, and is draining emotionally, mentally and physically.

Bulimia is another way of using food to deal with stress or anxiety. Like over-eating it causes the sufferer to feel guilt and shame afterwards.

At Addiction Care you’ll find help with both over-eating and bulimia. Based in Guildford, we can help you regain confidence and self-esteem, along with a healthy lifestyle. We do this by helping you gain control over the situation and by using food plans and expert therapy.

Are You Looking For Sex Treatment In Guildford

Sex: it’s everywhere in today’s modern society. TV programmes and movies are surfeited with it, while advertising deploys it constantly to get attention. No wonder sex addiction is so hard to break. While advertising of cigarettes has been banned, a sex addict can rarely escape sexual imagery.

Since it often shuts down the emotional parts of the brain, by focusing on the physical, sex can be a form of escapism. With the easy access of pornography, there is a growing number of people who find it hard to control sexual urges, even if it puts their relationship at risk.

Sex addiction is defined by Relate as any sexual activity which feels out of control.  Whether your relationship has been ruined by sexual infidelity or you can’t control your sexual urges, you might need sex treatment.

Alcohol Treatment Hampshire

Do you continue to drink, even though it causes problems? Do you have a strong craving or need to drink, every day?

If so, it sounds like you’re suffering from alcohol addiction. This problem affects people from all walks of life, of any age and background. It certainly doesn’t discriminate, although it’s usually always masking some emotional pain. The first step towards recovery is admitting that you have a problem. Alcoholism has been described as ‘the only disease that tries to convince you, that you don’t have it’.

It is often difficult to move beyond this stage of self-denial, because the body becomes accustomed to drink. You might even suffer withdrawal symptoms, such as shaking or dry heaves. Conversations are forgotten in a haze of drink, while you feel you need it to function socially.

Perhaps you have reached a crisis point and realise that you need help. If you require alcohol treatment in Hampshire, contact the team at Addiction Care.

Our therapy can help you move past the denial stage. We will provide the support you need to re-build your life. This includes exploring the issues that lie at the heart of addiction. Treatment can be done individually or as a group.

Based in Guildford, we are easily accessible for those in Hampshire.

Where To Find Drug Help In Berkshire

Finding help for drug addiction is an important step. First and foremost, it means admitting that you have a problem. Too often, denial stops many people from moving forward. This is particularly true when it comes to prescription drugs. Since they’re legal and more acceptable, this is a growing problem. Long term use of Valium or codeine, for instance, is just as detrimental.

While some people can use drugs recreationally, others suffer from addictive tendencies.

Since they affect the brain, drugs and mental health are closely linked. We take drugs because we feel bad; they then alter our brain chemistry and make us dependent. Then we take more, because we feel even worse, until it becomes a coping mechanism.  It’s a vicious cycle that must be broken.

Are you looking where to find drug help? If you’re in the county of Berkshire, pay a visit to Addiction Care. Since we’re in Guildford, our services are perfect for clients in Hampshire, Surrey and Berkshire.

We will explore the underlying issues driving your addiction. Emotional pain is often numbed by drugs. By confronting these issues, you are less likely to relapse.

Find Food Addiction Help in Hampshire

Food addiction is a serious problem in the UK. With obesity levels hitting record levels, it is putting a strain on NHS services. Last year there was on average 530,000 admissions due to weight-related problems.

When many people are stressed, they turn to food for comfort. It isn’t actually the food which is addictive; it’s more the process of eating it. Stimulating reward pathways in the brain, craving food is a behavioural addiction rather than related to substances.

Unfortunately, unlike other additions, this problem is usually relatively hidden. Binge eating often isn’t taken seriously enough, despite the fact it causes long-term problems. It is often a vicious cycle, and can affect both men and women.

Are you looking to find food addition help in Hampshire? If you feel you have no control over your eating, Addiction Care can help. Based in Guilford, we want you to regain confidence and self-esteem.

Addiction Care begin by helping people face self-denial, therefore bringing a touch of reality. At the same time, we look to mitigate feelings of shame and guilt. After this, we will create a healthy and nutritional food plan.

Food Addiction

With estimations that 64% of the UK’s population are classed as being overweight or obese, and statistics suggest that around 22% of the population have an addictive personality. This means that there are around 8896025 people who could be food addicts.

For some, addiction can sound like a cop out. It can be the excuse to continue or worse still, go deeper into the food in the belief that there is no hope. When in fact, this psychological setback merely means the person is susceptible to addictions, which can include anything from drugs and alcohol to pornography, gambling, Internet, video games, exercise, work, relationships, and in this case food.

Food addiction, like any other addiction presents with a spectrum of behaviours that can be habitual or even ritualistic. The person addicted to food eats compulsively (or indeed starves or purges compulsively). There are also impulsive behaviours, such as impulsive food shopping. And believe it or not, there is a physical addiction evident through withdrawal symptoms. To add to this, food addicts may switch from one addiction to another, giving a semblance of having control, or even sustain many different addictions.

Physical consequences can be obvious; increase in size, a growing number of ailments and associated illness, for example increased risk of heart conditions, diabetes. Health services are already expressing concern about the escalating demand directly linked with obesity. There are less obvious effects, such as depression, low-self esteem, isolation, to name but a few.

The first step into treatment at Addiction Care enables the person to learn what addiction is and being able to apply that knowledge to themselves and see if they really are food addicts. From thereon they gain knew information and experience how to take back control, with a programme of abstinence. This might sound odd! After all we have to eat. However, this is life changing treatment and now words can explain the experiential process that occurs to start living life accordingly, free from the perils of addiction.
