BBQ Time

It’s nearly BBQ time. That means family and friends get together and enjoy each other’s company.
However – if someone is struggling with an alcohol issue this “Fun Time” can be one of the worst times.
The person feels like they need to join in and have a drink. “Just One Won’t Hurt” say friends and family.
Unfortunately, “Just One Drink” to an alcohol dependent person is enough to set them back on the path of compulsive and often, secretive drinking. As an alcoholic myself – now 23 years sober from my last
drink – I had to understand that if I have that first drink, then there will be a second and more drinks to follow.
Once started, I continue drinking, and it gets progressively worse.

The only way for an alcoholic to recover from a drinking problem is not to have the first drink! This is
very hard for the person – and the family – to hear and to understand – that’s what I try to help the person with. When I work with a client then I reflect what is going on for them and help them come to terms with the facts – only then can the client start to make a change.

Like all addictive processes, the only answer to an Alcohol Addiction is complete abstinence. There is no
compromise with an addiction!!

This is not just true of people with Alcohol problems – all addictions are the same.
Alcohol, Drugs, Gambling, Food, Sex, Pornography, Relationship and Co-dependency are all the same.
For people with an Addictive Personality, we all have the problem. No matter what the drug of choice
is.

My name is Peter. I am 23 years sober of a drink and 23 years clean of a drug. I specialise in helping
clients in 1-1 Therapy – Face to Face or Zoom – explore their behaviours and look at how it affects them
or their loved ones. I am passionate about helping and our sessions will be completely private and
confidential.

I work from the centre of Guildford and take pride in helping clients recover from their addictions and
reclaim their lives.
